When I was nine-years-old, my mother gave me a dozen tulip bulbs, the first flowers I ever planted. So, tulips bring back childhood memories and a connection to my Dutch heritage. My family name, Scoonover, harkens back to the well-known Dutch name, Von Schoonhoven. The tulips come to life by combining two different techniques. The full-color drawing of the inside of the flower seems to be a flame of reds and yellows. The line drawing uses lithographic techniques, which are commonly known as vector art today. I enjoyed doing this series of three tulips at a time when my studio space was not available, using what I had on hand to create. I see a series of orchids in the future.
