Joy #2

$60.00$100.00

The Japanese concept, Shodo, “allows the artist to explore personal expression that captures a transitory moment within an otherwise rigid world.” The characters of Japanese calligraphy are concepts that would translate into philosophical statements. So, too, these two pieces convey the concept of the joy of two spirits in a dance of joy and connection, floating above a black and white geometric foundation that represent the “real world.” The pieces are composed of three dimensional swooshes that stand out against highly textured backgrounds of twine and paste and airbrush painted color that accents the joy of the dance between the elements. At the base of both pieces, the black foundation is the predictable forms and functions that comprise everyday life. Above, is the moment of transition to joy, the transcendence of the moment of the dance of the relationship, co-existing in harmonious balance. Joy #2 is large-scale “wow” piece that continues to juxtapose the linear, geometric world with the joyful emotion of the moment between two dancing figures.
